The aim of this is simply to compile a list of resources for a HTC Dream user, be it rooting your Dream all the way or prioritising your Phone application so as to reduce lag time between ringing and be able to pick up the call. I’ve tried all of these since getting my phone.
The Basics
- Full Update Guide – from stock Dream Firmware to CyanogenMod – This includes information on how to root your phone. You do not have to install CyanogenMod (a custom rom currently running Android 2.1) if you don’t want to.
- XDA-Developers – G1 Development – If you don’t want to install CyanogenMod, find a ROM here. Most of the roms are based on CyanogenMod at the time of writing (28/6/2010).
Customising
- Themes for HTC Dream – Self-explanatory.
Mods & Hacks
- Speed up your phone’s response time to an incoming call – When you run a custom ROM, you will inevitably encounter the problem of the ROM not giving priority for memory to your Phone application. As a result, your phone lags when incoming calls come. Solve that problem with this.
- Make your phone louder – I’m not quite sure if I want this out in the open, but I guess those cursed blast-music-on-bus idiots don’t use the HTC dream. Anyway, as the title states, this makes the audio louder.
Useful applications
- setCPU – Use this to overclock your Dream while the display is on, and to underclock it when it’s sleeping. Good for conserving battery.
- Facebook app with working sync for Dream – The official Facebook application doesn’t allow Dream to sync properly with Google’s servers. This solves the problem.
- Gallery 3D/2D Switcher – Switch between having either the new 3D Gallery application or the old 2D Gallery application installed. You can also choose to install both.
